| Virtual Visit: Ramakrishna Monastery in Trabuco Canyon

The entrance to the monastery appears beneath a canopy of
California live oaks. The bridge, handcrafted by the monks
themselves, beckons.

On our way up the hill, we gaze back down the road, flanked by
Italian stone pines.

The gravel pathway leads to the main buildings.

To the right, the dormitory peeks out from behind the trees.

On a misty morning, the monastery dog Kalu
rests at the top of the main pathway.

The monastery bell is rung to mark the times for
rising, prayer and meals.

Swami Vivekananda, in bronze, meditates at sunset.

Some of the monk's quarters open to this hallway.

A painting of Sri Ramakrishna hangs in the lecture hall, which
serves also as the refectory.

Sunset at the monastery.

The monastery shrine is open to the public for meditation during
visiting hours.
